ABOUT THE RUDY'S I-35 CUP
This is the eleventh year of the Rudy’s I-35 Cup which is a Ryder Cup format competition between San Antonio and Austin. Teams consist of 14 players from each city (team captain has the option of Captain’s picks for the 12th, 13th and 14th spots). Players must be at least 25 years of age and live in Bexar or adjacent counties along with Kerr County (for San Antonio) and Travis or adjacent counties (for Austin). Each team must have a minimum of three players of at least 50 years of age. Team San Antonio must earn 14 points to retain the Cup. Team Austin must earn 14 1/2 points to retake the Cup this year.
THE RYDER CUP MATCH
The Ryder Cup Matches involve various match play competitions between players selected from two teams of fourteen. Currently, the matches consist of seven foursomes matches, seven four ball matches and 14 singles matches. The winner of each match scores a point for their team, with ½ a point each for any match that is tied after 18 holes.
A foursomes match is a competition between two teams of two golfers. The golfers on the same team take alternate shots throughout the match, with the same ball. Each hole is won by the team that completes the hole in the fewest shots. A four ball match is also a competition between two teams of two golfers, but all four golfers play their own ball throughout the round rather than alternating shots, and each hole is won by the team whose individual golfer has the lowest score. A singles match is a standard match play competition between two golfers.
The matches take place over two days, Saturday through Sunday, a total of 28 matches. On Saturday, there are seven, four ball matches in the morning (or afternoon) and seven foursomes matches in the morning (or afternoon). On Sunday, there are 14 singles matches, when all team members play. The winning team is determined by cumulative total points.
